Understanding User Experience Design
This week we had a talk from Alan Lavery a UX designer from deloitte we talked about some of the key goals for UX design.
Why it matters:
Blackberry Z10 and why it failed
Blackberry brought out its first touchscreen smartphone and had so much overstock it went bankrupt this was because of the lack of user experience with how users navigate through the device, Another reason it failed was because it did not meet a users need to help the user but added more gestures to navigate
Spotify
And why it succeeded
At the time music piracy was booming and the swedish startup got its library of music and made it very easy for the user to browse all the music in the world centralised
Spotify took time to do user research and understand what the product needed to benefit the user.
The dangers of features
A feature must only be created if it aligns with a users goals.
Just because the luxury recliner chair is the best designed chair in the world it’s not suitable for work as it does not meet the users needs and doesn't lend to the behavioural habits of a work scenario
Paradox of Specificity
Carry on suitcase
Designed for tiny audience with specific user needs but has boomed into a universal must.
